Be Well Program for high risk seniors to be provided in City of Inglewood
A new “Be Well” series of 16 classes will be offered for seniors 65 and over at Darby Park, 3400 W. Arbor Vitae Boulevard in Inglewood, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. beginning Tuesday, March 9, and ending in June, 2010. Be Well is a light exercise and weight management program serving moderate to high risk seniors with chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension and heart disease.
The goal of the program is to improve self management of health, weight, quality of life, and fitness while reducing hospitalizations and depression.
The Program, which will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, includes one hour of exercise taught by a certified fitness instructor and one hour of nutrition education, featuring a senior oriented curriculum on nutrition, medication management and behavior modification taught by registered dietitians, pharmacists and psychologists. There will also be Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for problem solving for a randomly selected group.
The program is free to the seniors! The cost of the program is subsidized by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging, Inglewood Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department Human Services Division, City of Inglewood, Food and Nutrition Management Services, Partners in Care Foundation, and Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center.
Select one of the orientation dates listed below to learn more about the program and see if you qualify. The program is limited to the first 40 clients that meet the study criteria. Orientations will take place at Darby Park from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in February: February 9, 11,16, 18. 23, and 25.
